Discover the wild beauty of Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains on this unforgettable 7 day trek from Marrakech.

The journey takes you through the beautiful Aït Bougmez (Happy Valley), the remote Arous Valley, the spectacular Tarkeddît Plateau, and the rugged Oulilimt Valley.

Along the way, trek through traditional Amazigh villages, green valleys, high mountain passes, and remote landscapes far from the busy tourist routes. The itinerary also offers the possibility of climbing Jbel M’Goun (4,068 m) for experienced trekkers.

    Day 1: Marrakech – Azilal – Aït Bougmez (Happy Valley)

    Your adventure begins with an early departure from Marrakech toward the Central High Atlas. Drive through the spectacular landscapes of the Marrakech-Safi and Azilal region, with a possible stop at the famous Ouzoud Waterfalls. Continue toward Aït Bougmez, known as the Happy Valley for its green terraces, walnut trees, traditional Amazigh villages, and beautiful mountain scenery.

    After arriving in the valley, enjoy a short afternoon walk through the surrounding villages and agricultural fields. Meet local people and discover the traditional way of life of the Amazigh communities.

    Overnight: Guesthouse in Aït Bougmez
    Walking: 2–3 hours

    Day 2: Happy Valley – Arous Valley

    After breakfast, begin the trek from the Happy Valley toward the remote Arous Valley. The trail gradually climbs through traditional villages, cultivated terraces, and mountain pastures before entering a more isolated landscape.

    As you gain altitude, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic, with the peaks of the M’Goun massif appearing ahead. Continue toward the Arous Valley, where shepherds and their livestock can often be seen during the trekking season.

    Overnight: Camp in Arous Valley
    Walking: 5–6 hours
    Difficulty: Moderate to challenging

    Day 3: Arous – Tizi n’Ouloun – Tarkeddît Plateau

    An early start is required for one of the most spectacular days of the trek. Leave Arous and climb steadily toward the high mountain passes leading to Tarkeddît.

    The ascent is demanding but rewarded with magnificent panoramic views over the Central High Atlas. After crossing the high pass, descend toward the vast Tarkeddît Plateau, a remote alpine landscape surrounded by impressive peaks.

    Arrive at the campsite in the afternoon and enjoy a well-deserved rest in this peaceful mountain environment.

    Overnight: Camp at Tarkeddît
    Walking: 6–8 hours
    Highest altitude: Around 3,400 m
    Difficulty: Challenging

    Day 4: Tarkeddît – Jbel M’Goun – Oulilimt Valley

    For experienced trekkers, this is the highlight of the journey. Start very early and climb toward Jbel M’Goun, one of the highest peaks in Morocco at approximately 4,068 m.

    The ascent takes you through a spectacular high-altitude landscape. From the summit or ridge, enjoy panoramic views across the surrounding mountains before beginning the long descent toward the Oulilimt Valley.

    For those who prefer not to climb M’Goun, a lower route can be taken across the plateau and toward Oulilimt.

    Overnight: Camp in Oulilimt Valley
    Walking: 8–10 hours with summit
    Difficulty: Very challenging

    Day 5: Explore Oulilimt Valley – High Atlas Villages

    Continue through the beautiful and remote Oulilimt Valley, following mountain trails between rocky cliffs, green pastures, and small Amazigh settlements.

    The landscape gradually changes as you descend to lower elevations. This is a great opportunity to experience the peaceful side of the High Atlas, away from the main tourist routes.

    Enjoy a traditional lunch prepared by the trekking team before continuing to the evening campsite.

    Difficulty: Moderate

    Day 6: Oulilimt – Aït Bougmez

    Today the trail gradually brings you back toward Aït Bougmez. Walk through mountain valleys and traditional Amazigh villages, enjoying views of terraced fields and the surrounding peaks.

    On arrival in the Happy Valley, relax at a traditional guesthouse and enjoy a Moroccan dinner. After several nights camping in the mountains, this evening provides a comfortable opportunity to rest.

    Day 7: Happy Valley – Azilal – Marrakech

    After breakfast, take a final morning walk through the Happy Valley. Visit some of the traditional villages and discover the local architecture and agricultural terraces.

    Then meet your vehicle and begin the journey back to Marrakech via Azilal. Depending on the timing, there may be an opportunity to stop for photos or lunch along the way.

    Arrive in Marrakech in the afternoon or early evening, marking the end of your High Atlas adventure.
